Case Study 5: Piecemeal Demolition Anglo Blackwells
In 1996 Churchills successfully tendered and were awarded the contract to demolish by hand and remove from site a 138m tall reinforced concrete windshield containing a single refractory lined steel flue.
The chimney was to be demolished with no disruption to the sites normal day-to-day operations. With fully manned offices and laboratories positioned at a distance of less than 3m from the base of the chimney emphasis was to be concentrated on the containment of demolished material at the point of work.
Churchill successfully completed the removal of the internal flue and the demolition of the 138m windshield using our purpose built expanding scaffold platform (ESP) within programme and more importantly no damage was caused to any of the surrounding buildings.
The success of this contract established Churchill's as a market leader in the controlled demolition and dismantling of tall structures in particular where sites were required to remain fully operational.
