Accreditations where does it end and what are their real value

Whilst many of the well known accreditations are reasonably comprehensive in vetting and assessing the competency of a particular organisation there is an argument that their end goal is always to have companies accredited rather than rejected.
Having obtained accreditation to the likes of Achilles, Constructionline, Safecontractor & CHAS Churchills have witnessed at first hand an almost complete lack of knowledge and appreciation from all of the aforementioned accreditation bodies in relation to our industry skill base.
The end result is that potential buyers simply look at which company has a certain accreditation and seldom look beyond this smoke screen created by the accreditation bodies.
Whilst the various accreditation bodies do go someway to protect the end user accreditation to any of the trade associations should always be subject to further scrutiny.
