Steeplejack Grading Competency

Churchill Steeplejacks (UK) Ltd were recently commissioned by a client to confirm the current industry grading and competence of steeplejacks.
Due to a continued lack of inadequate field assessment available to our industry, steeplejack NVQ Level 2 qualification has always been and remains very difficult to obtain and thus the achievement rates throughout our industry is very poor, less than 20 in total in the UK with nine employed at Churchills.

Employing 1 of only 3 qualified industry NVQ Level 3 trainer/assessors (the other 2 are directly employed by Construction Skills) Churchills have been able
to make rapid progress in achieving NVQ level 2 for our staff and commencing January 2010 we will begin offering this training service to the industry. Today with 14 of our 20 steeplejacks having an NVQ Level 2 or greater (Gold Card Foreman) and the remaining 6 currently embarked on an NVQ it is a sad fact that no other company in our sector has been able to mirror this level of achievement.
A CSCS card should never be taken at face value it is your assurance of an individuals achievement and competency to undertake and safely complete a specific task. Unfortunately it is our experience that CSCS cards seldom get thoroughly checked and the individuals competency or lack of it is therefore seldom fully appreciated.
CSCS Steeplejack Cards are Red for Trainee / Apprentice, Blue for Steeplejack NVQ Level 2, Gold Advanced Steeplejack NVQ Level 3, the same system applies also for Lightning Protection Engineers.

Safety Management/Planning;-
NEBOSH in construction
Contract Management:-
SMSTS qualification
3 Man Site Team;-
1no CSCS Gold Card Foreman with SSSTS & CCNSG
2no CSCS NVQ Level 2 Steeplejack with CCNSG
